For over 30 years I worked in corporate as an executive assistant to partners in city law firms in London, then Paris, until 2010, when, as a single mum, I was "let go" without warning. I thought a job meant safety but the truth is a J.O.B meant that I was Just Over Broke - I didn't have savings, and now I know that most people don't have more than 2-3 months before the money runs out. After months of struggle - unemployment, I returned to corporate and went back living off an overdraft month to month. I felt like I was wasting my life away - unfulfilled and without purpose. There had to be more to life than this?
In addition to the J.O.B, and as sole provider for my son, I sought out numerous ways to make additional revenue to work from home : as virtual assistant; transcription work; I launched a textile accessories brand hand-knitting and crocheting unique pieces; a sales rep for a British stationery brand; then in health & wellness network marketing selling supplements and essential oils. I started the business seeking more free time, but really struggled and found myself stuck in front of a screen almost all the time, burnt-out from the hustle. I'm grateful for the experience since it gave me a lot of awareness about all the invisible nasties we are exposed to on a daily basis from the foods/beverages we consume to cosmetics to cleaning products and perfumes.
